There are many therapies and methods of counselling available. It can be confusing trying to work out which is which, so we have provided a brief explanation about some of the main areas.
The Group Analytic Practice is a private psychotherapeutic practice first established in 1968. Our group analytic work is linked to a fine tradition, now dating back over 40 years, which has made a significant and far reaching impact in the practice of Group Analysis in the UK.

What is therapy and how can it help?
Many find it beneficial to talk to someone who is caring and experienced but is neither a relative nor friend, in a confidential and private setting. This talking therapy is generally referred to as counselling or psychotherapy.
We welcome enquiries from those who are interested in having counselling, psychotherapy or personal analysis, to help explore and understand the difficulties and concerns which have caused you to seek help in the first place.
Is there a difference between therapy and counselling?
Nowadays counselling is often used to describe any sort of talking therapy.
In practice, it is generally given over a shorter period to provide help and support with a specific problem such as a relationship breakdown or bereavement.
The types of treatment we offer:
Group Analytic Psychotherapy
The group is an interactive mechanism that is dynamic and forever both challenging and supporting; dealing with both the past and the present; working with both the individual and the group all in the service of deepening understanding which in turn can change behaviour.
Individual psychotherapy
We are able to offer most of the major approaches to individual therapy from once or twice a week to more intensive 4 or 5 times a week analysis.
Therapy for children, adolescents and families
Children and adolescents with a variety of problems can be seen individually. Sometimes parents need guidance and support. This service is also offered.
Couple Therapy
We have a long tradition of working with couples, whether married, non-married, straight or gay. Therapy is usually carried out with 2 therapists who, within the session, themselves work as a couple.
Medical/Psychiatric assessment
Symptoms such as anxiety, depression, suicidality, OCD can be so severe and disabling that they become an obstacle to making progress in therapy. At such times a medical approach, can be helpful to support ongoing therapeutic work.
